So nice, we had to list him twice. This is the tert everyone’s going to Faf about. Box-kick it out of the park with our mouthwatering FafTert recipe.


For the Pap

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • 2 cups maize meal 

For the filling 

  • 2 tots olive oil 
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 packet straky bacon
  • 500g mushrooms 
  • 1/2 tsp salt 
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper 
  • 1 can creamed sweet corn 
  • 2 cups grate cheddar 
  • 2 cups cream 
  • 2 springs fresh thyme 
  • 1 green pepper 
  • Can of tomato & onion mix



  • In a large casserole add water an bring to a boil. 
  • Remove from heat and a salt an margarine 
  • Stir Maize meal in slowly until mixture is stiff, stir it thoroughly 
  • Turn heat own considerably and cook for another 30 minutes until cooked. Stir occasionally 


  • Make tomato & onion sauce 
  • Fry bacon, mushroom and green pepper


  • Pre-heat oven to 180C
  • Grease oven proof dish 
  • Layer half of the pap in the ish 
  • Then layer the tomato & onion relish, bacon, mushroom & green pepper 
  • Grate the cheese over the dish
  • Once done pour fresh cream 
  • Use fork and spoon to layer the last half of the pap
  • Add the rest of the layers 
  • Finish with fresh grounded black pepper 
  • Bake in oven for approx. 30-40 minutes till golden and crispy 
  • Can make just one layer and it can be frozen.
