With the gorgeous Garden Route sunshine beating down at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, we descended upon the renowned Fat Fish restaurant in George and met up with head chef and owner Simon Ash. As a restaurant that prides itself on serving the freshest seafood and delivering on impeccable flavour combinations, it’s easy to see why the Fat Fish is something special.

We couldn’t have selected a better day to enjoy Chef Simon’s exceptional seafood. With Chef Caitlin and the Megamaster Fusion 600 by his side, he chopped, grilled and basted his way to perfection to deliver a light, flavourful and quick meal.

The black mussels were sourced from a farmed, sustainable source in Saldanha Bay in the West Coast and are SASSI compliant. Thanks to the Megamaster Fusion 600 lid, steaming the mussels to until succulent and flavourful was easy. 

The main course was Grilled Prawns with Harissa with a side serving of grilled Pak Choi salad with toasted Pine nuts, avocado – topped with lime olive oil dressing and freshly grated Parmesan. With the easy to control gas unit, coupled with Chef Simon’s impeccable timing, each course was grilled to perfection.  

With the incredible weather, it was only fitting that we enjoyed a tasty, seafood meal, grilled by the Fat Fish master himself. Perfectly complimented with a bottle of the famous Method Cap Classique, we were humbled by Chef Simon’s warm hospitality, impressed by his grill skills and most importantly - felt right at home.
