How do I clean the cast iron grids of my patio gas braai?
The easiest way to clean the grids is immediately after you have finished braaiing. Make sure you have put the gas off.
- Wear a glove to protect your hand from the heat and steam.
- Dip a brass bristle cleaning brush in water and scrub the hot grids.
- Dip the brush frequently in the bowl of water with some dishwashing liquid.
Steam, created as water contacts the hot grids, assists the cleaning process by softening any food particles. If the grids cool before cleaning, cleaning will be more difficult. Remember to dry the cast iron grids properly afterwards (don’t leave them to drip dry as rust can occur if left for too long) and remember to treat them with vegetable oil.
